Global Green USA Kicked Off OSCAR Week With Moby & Crystal Method
Hollywood, February 26th, 2014. Kicking off the biggest week in entertainment, Global Green USA hosted its can’t-miss, pre-Oscar bash on Wednesday, February 26th at the Avalon Hollywood. Marking the organization’s 20th Anniversary, the zero-waste event brought together Hollywood’s elite activists and eco-conscious celebrities to raise funds and awareness for Global Green USA’s ongoing initiatives. The night began with arrivals on the signature "Green Carpet" where celebrities and VIPs checked out the all-new, 2014 Cadillac ELR plug-in electric vehicle and talked about various ways they "do green" in their daily lives. Award winning musician and environmentalist Moby took the stage as headliner at Global Green USA’s 11th Annual Pre-Oscar® Party, and electronic music duo The Crystal Method DJ’d at the star-studded Oscar Week celebration.
Guests enjoyed a plant-based dinner catered by Akasha Restaurant, which included forbidden black rice pilaf with spring peas & greens and roasted king oyster mushrooms, finished with a chocolate-walnut-cashew cake sundae. Guests also participated in a high-end auction lead by Christie’s auctioneer, Mariana Joseph, which included a J. Lohr Paso Robles getaway, a trip to Turtle Island Resort Fiji, an ultimate "Moby Experience" and more. Eco-conscious celebrity Michelle Branch even took the stage to model a ring for auction, helping encourage guests to bid and raise funds for the organization.
Following dinner and the auction, Moby promptly began his electric performance – his only scheduled show for the entire year. Moby performed with The Silver Lake Chorus, mixing his biggest hits with newer material, and even making several heart-felt remarks about the importance of environmental awareness. "We are thrilled to be part of Oscar Week yet again, delivering what is the hottest ticket among green-minded A-listers," said Mary Luevano, Global Green USA’s Interim Executive Director. "By bringing Moby and The Crystal Method to our party, we continue to demonstrate Global Green’s ability to connect eco-conscious entertainers, influencers and brands and act as a catalyst for change." Moby commented "After attending multiple Global Green events over the years and supporting them in their mission, it's really nice to be able to play their legendary pre-Oscar party."
To achieve Global Green’s goal of making this a zero-waste event, the organization's own Coalition for Resource Recovery program (www.thecorr.org/), in collaboration with CoRR member Athens Services and the staff of the Avalon Hollywood, worked to ensure that at least 90 percent of all refuse, including food scraps and packaging, is diverted from landfill through three key measures: reusing, recycling, and composting. The event also featured the all-new, 2014 Cadillac ELR plug-in electric vehicle, which was on display in the Cadillac ELR Lounge and on the green carpet.
Guests were served organic 360 Vodka cocktails, sustainably grown wine from J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines, a Certified California Sustainable Vineyard & Winery, and an organic, plant-based dinner by Akasha Restaurant before the live performance. Event Eleven's Tony Schubert served as executive show producer. Kellan Lutz reunited with former cast-mate Ashley Greene during the performance, and the Twilight buds were spotted laughing and celebrating with a large group of friends. Malin Akerman and Eliza Coupe danced to Moby’s electric performance, while posing for pictures and chatting with guests at their table. The evening ended with a DJ set by The Crystal Method.
Celebrity guests included: Alison Sudol, Ashley Greene, Billy Zane, Ed Begley Jr., Eliza Coupe, Frances Fisher, James Dumont, Jane Seymour, Joan Rivers, Kellan Lutz, Luke Perry, Maggie Grace, Malin Akerman, Matt Walsh, Michelle Branch, Mike Manning, Rob Steinberg, Vanessa Marano and more. This year’s event featured the all-new, 2014 Cadillac ELR plug-in electric vehicle, which will be on display in the Cadillac ELR Lounge. A Galaxy Tab 3 donation from Samsung and Sprint helped our efforts to go paper-free and zero waste. Global Green USA also is grateful for the support of the following sustainable brands: 360 Vodka, Defiant Whisky, Gemesis Diamond Co, Pureology and Turtle Island Resort Fiji.
